2024 Year In Review

2024 Year In Review

This was a strange year for me. A refrain I seem to repeat often, it seems, in these annual recaps. Though I saw a lot of games, I had some concessions I had to make for work or travel considerations. My daughter is getting older, and some weekends I was with her for various reasons. Even choosing particular games, to attend with her. But I also got to travel and spent considerable time in Montana–a state that I love. My season spanned nineteen weekends and saw 102 total games. 2024 Week 18 (Texas)

2024 Week 18 (Texas)

The last week of the season is always an interesting one. Most years, it ends in Texas. And this was the case in 2024. Now, unlike in previous weeks, I’m not going to recount each individual game. As all twelve of them would take forever as I was the photographer and videographer of the postgame press conferences. My time covering the play-by-play was limited though I did do tweet updates as scores happened for select games. Or parts of games. Continue reading “2024 Week 18 (Texas)”

2024 Week 16 (Ohio)

2024 Week 16 (Ohio)

Week Sixteen gave me two logical options for games. Pennsylvania State Finals or Ohio State Finals. With them falling on the same weekend again, I had a choice. I was figuring I’d be in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania once again. But then I decided to let some other photographers for PA Football News cover the games and instead went with Ohio.

2024 Week 14 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

2024 Week 14 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

Week 14 had one solid plan scheduled. Four games on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium for the WPIAL Finals. Friday, though, went through a lot of upheaval. The initial game I was attended was going to be at Williamsburg. But with schedule changes, Bishop Guilfoyle v. Westinghouse was moved to Highlands High School in Natrona Heights. And my schedule was adjusted to photograph that one.

But then, more changes. Games were reworked to move them from Friday night to Saturday. Including both originally planned games. That left me with only one option. Continue reading “2024 Week 14 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)”

2024 Week 13 (New York & Pennsylvania)

2024 Week 13 (New York & Pennsylvania)

This was a week with a lot of driving. And many games. Thursday opened with three games planned in New York. It was my first time back to Orchard Park since 2019. Annually, Section VI in New York hosts their sectional finals at the home of the Buffalo Bills.

Before doing sideline photography, I was here in 2013 and 2014 for the Sectional Finals, as well as some MMAA playoff games when they were held here. Back when it was Ralph Wilson Stadium. And then in 2018 and 2019 on the sideline under the name New Era Field.

This year, it’s now Highmark Stadium. Not to be confused with the same named stadium in Pittsburgh. Continue reading “2024 Week 13 (New York & Pennsylvania)”

2024 Week 12 (New York & Pennsylvania)

2024 Week 12 (New York & Pennsylvania)

Being at home for the week, I had a few options for games. But I wasn’t 100% sure what days I could be around. After one round of the Chuck Funke Bowl, I was back in New York on Thursday for the last of the Chuck Funke Bowl games.

There were a couple of options. Iroquois was hosting West Seneca East while McKinley was hosting Kenmore West at All-High Stadium. And though I hadn’t seen Kenmore West before, I had been to All-High and didn’t feel like driving into Buffalo for a game. And I had gone a while without seeing Southwestern.

Southwestern was playing Akron at Akron in the Class C Chuck Funke Bowl. Continue reading “2024 Week 12 (New York & Pennsylvania)”
