2012 Year in Review

Well, this past year, I didn’t get a chance to update the last two weeks. Which included both the PIAA and UIL finals in Week 17 and 18. Although much didn’t change from my last trips to these events. Going into Week 17, I had witnessed 87 games. After the four PIAA finals, I wa at 91 heading into the final week of the season in the country. Only nine games remained. All of them taking place in Arlington, Texas. So, it was with this, that I drove to Texas for the weekend to take in three days of football that is just staggering in scale.

With the finish of the Allen-Houston Lamar game, the 2012 High school Football season came to a close. And, as I did last year, I want to recap the season and give my opinions on things.

I figured I’d do another year long recap as I did at the conclusion of the 2010 season. Akin to last year, I’ll write up some statistics before moving into my opinions of high school football around the country and the fan support.

In total, I’ve seen 73 different high school football games this year. I saw games in 16 different states and games in 17 of the possible 18 weeks that high school football is played throughout the country. I’ve seen games in 40 different venues in 40 different cities. I’ve seen 134 different teams play.

I figured it would be interesting to those that have followed along my little high school football odyssey this year to give some numbers and some final thoughts.

I’ll start with some statistics before getting into my opinions of the games. In total, I’ve seen 56 high school games this year. I’ve seen games in 12 different states. I’ve seen games in 21 different venues in 21 different towns. I’ve seen 14 state championship games, 18 state semifinals, and 5 other playoff games.
