2023 Year In Review

2023 Year In Review

After the past few years, I finally had what I would call a ‘normal year’ going to high school football games. I ended the season back in Texas at the UIL Finals. But I didn’t start in Georgia as I had the previous two seasons. Instead, I started in a field in South Dakota. Along the way were trips to New Jersey and Pittsburgh, as well as state championship weekends in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Continue reading “2023 Year In Review”

2023 Week 17 (Texas)

2023 Week 17 (Texas)

My 2023 season ended in Texas as it has done quite a few times in the past. The first, though, since the fall 2021 season. In 2022, I passed on Texas in exchange for two games on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A mix of work and pleasure. However, for Texas it was a fun drive down to Arlington, Texas. 2023 Week 16 (Pennsylvania)

2023 Week 16 (Pennsylvania)

Week sixteen was another trip to the Pennsylvania state finals. For the second year, they were being held in Mechanicsburg on the west side of the state capital, Harrisburg.

Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field was the host. And though it feels like the stadium lacks the gravitas of some other state finals, it’s more than adequate for the crowds Pennsylvania gets when their games are on quasi-free television via PCN across the state. 2023 Week 15 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

2023 Week 15 (Ohio & Pennsylvania)

Week 15 started with some turmoil. One, there was an issue with my credential request for the Ohio state finals. Which eventually got worked out. And secondly, I had to find a new camera. I wanted to get another t8i, but it looked like none were available. And with the swithcover to mirrorless, finding an older DSLR was a priority. As I did not want to use an adapter for my lenses on a mirrorless.

2023 Week 12 (Texas)

2023 Week 12 (Texas)

This week wasn’t supposed to be in Texas. At the start of the year, I had figured I’d be making the trip to Iowa as I had made for several years not including 2020 when I went to South Dakota instead.

But, I had decided I wouldn’t be making the trip about two weeks ago for work. Which was unfortunate because there was also two games in New York I’d have liked to do. Both CSP and Salamanca were at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park for the Section 6 Finals. Continue reading “2023 Week 12 (Texas)”

2023 Week 10 (Tri-State)

2023 Week 10 (Tri-State)

Week 10 started on a somber note. And I hadn’t really planned to do anything on Tuesday. However, there was a rare game scheduled in West Virginia. And with everything going on, I just wanted to get away.

So, on Tuesday afternoon, I headed east on US422 to I-79. And took that through Washington toward Waynesburg. Passing by West Greene High School on my way along the southern reaches of PA18 into the Mountaineer State. Continue reading “2023 Week 10 (Tri-State)”
