2022 Year In Review

2022 Year In Review

After the last two years, it’s hard to say that a season was unusual. 2020 had so many twists and turns. Including spring games until June in New York City. Last year, there was some turbulence with scheduling. And I hurt my back after my trip to Arizona and things went downhill as the season went on.

This year, I was mostly healthy. Though getting older is not without its pitfalls. And things seemed to go on as planned. But my entire year had been affected by things including the economy and personal matters. I usually have a rather open personal life in the fall for football. And just work a bit more in the first eight months of the year. 2022 wasn’t that year. Continue reading “2022 Year In Review”

2022 Week 11 (Fargo)

2022 Week 11 (Fargo)

In Minnesota, the football playoffs have two segments. The latter are the state playoffs. The eight section champions in each class conduct an 8-team, 3-week tournament culminating with state semifinals and finals at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. To get those 8 section champions, they conduct section championships. And in northwestern Minnesota, as many as they can are scheduled for the Fargodome across the border in Fargo, North Dakota.

A few years ago, I found this out at the last minute, but couldn’t attend more than just two of those eight games. I had prior commitments and couldn’t stay longer. However, this year, I planned to be at them all. Nine games over two days. Continue reading “2022 Week 11 (Fargo)”

2022 Week 8 (Dakotas)

2022 Week 8 (Dakotas)

My week was not going to be a busy one. Being in the Dakotas, I only had a shot at a Friday and Saturday game. There were some Thursday games in Nebraska and Minnesota, but the time to get them, and the distance was just not feasible. So, I settled on one game on Friday near Aberdeen. And Saturday was initially going to be the lone Saturday game in Sioux Falls, but instead I headed north to the closest 9-man playoff game in North Dakota. Continue reading “2022 Week 8 (Dakotas)”

2021 Year In Review

2021 Year In Review

After an unimaginable 2020 season, this year was a bit more relaxed. Though rushed. With the previous season ending in June, there was little downtime before the 2021 season started. This affected my usual summer plans, as well as made the financial planning a bit more precarious. I wasn’t sure, in the summer, just how much I would or could do. But, I was intent on doing as much as possible. And though a lot was ‘old’, there was a lot of ‘new’ thrown in. Including my month long trip around the middle of the country. 2020 Week 3 (Montana & North Dakota)

2020 Week 3 (Montana & North Dakota)

Week 3 was an interesting week. Memorable for the places I did get to go. And a bit surprising that it went exactly as planned in advance. No changes. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch. I returned to western North Dakota this week after a few days in Texas and planned to enter Big Sky Country for a rare Thursday game the furthest northeast reaches of the state, and a Friday night contest along the Hi-Line. Continue reading “2020 Week 3 (Montana & North Dakota)”

2020 Week 1 (North Dakota)

2020 Week 1 (North Dakota)

With everything going on in the world, my Week 0 plans had gone off a bit smoother than I anticipated. After two games in Utah in Week 0, my plans for week 1 were wide open.

Originally, I was going to take in my first ever Corky Kell Classic in Georgia. An event spanning four days, it would have included 11 games. Three doubleheaders at various high school venues in Greater Atlanta and five games on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A stadium I had planned to see games at last year, but the GHSA finals were moved to Georgia State Stadium.

With Covid-19 reaking havoc in the Peach State, and with Kentucky getting pushed back a week, I looked around and saw that, close to Utah, were two states that would start football. North Dakota and South Dakota. Continue reading “2020 Week 1 (North Dakota)”
